How long does the process take?
If it can be started on right away, 3 to 5 days working days, depending on the design requirements. I reserve the right to decide if I’ll work on weekends, although I often do. If I’m very busy with other projects, it may take as much as a week before starting. This is impossible to predict however, and your understanding is very much appreciated.
How does the design process work?
The design starts out as a full color drawing created in Photoshop. From there, the layout is HTML and CSS coded and placed on a blog site or web site that is used specifically for creating template designs. You’ll be sent the link to the site where you can see the proposal, which also allows you to see the exact appearance as it’s assembled. This method allows you to request changes, additions, and to give feedback on what you do or don’t like about the design and layout. The operation of your existing blog is never interrupted in any way as the new template is created. Delivery and final installation generally takes just several minutes!
Is installation included?
Absolutely! Full installation at your blog or web site address is included. This allows Blogs Gone Wild! to insure that everything works and looks exactly as planned. Occasionally, minor adjustments to the layout are needed to fix problems with over sized images or overly long links in your posts. Installation will require you to give me the login information to your blog or website. In all cases you can set a temporary password to your site for Blogs Gone Wild! to use during the installation, you can change it back afterwards.
What do you need from me to get started?
Some of the things I need to know are: Do you have a particular look,theme, style or layout in mind? What are your favorite colors? Do you have a particular image that you have or saw somewhere on the internet that you want used in the design? You may be asked for links to other sites that you like the overall style of or general layout of other sites or from the Blogs Gone Wild! portfolio. I usually do image searches from various places on the web, you are of course welcome to supply your own images for use.
Please don’t ask for a design to be copied directly from another website or blog, this will not be done! All the designs are original! Occasionally other web designers may have used the same image to create a template or a site may look similar. This is purely by coincidence as it’s entirely impossible to know exactly what every other web site or blog may look like on the web.
In some cases, images will need copyright permission before use. Special charges for images will be above the cost of the design itself . There are many places where suitable images can be purchased, with pricing ranging anywhere from $1 to $10. Some of the best places are: iStock , Dreams Time and Fotolia. And of course there’s Google Image Search for free images.
Before purchasing any images, please ask if it’s suitable for use by emailing a link to the image. If the image size is too small or highly compressed it may look too grainy or blurry for an attractive appearance.
What about tech support?
Problems are very rare and take only a few minutes to repair, there is no charge for minor fixes! If you’ve made further customization to your blog or website after delivery you may want to make a backup copy of your own template. The original saved copy will only restore your site to the state in which it was delivered.
Tech support related to problems such as a database failure or corruption of the code due to a web server problem is done at my discretion. If a fee is to be charged this will be related to you in advance. Advice is free and backup copies of the original code and images are retained by Blogs Gone Wild! for a minimum of 6 months in case of problems, or you accidentally change or alter your code.
How are the images for the design handled?
Blogs Gone Wild! does not host images. Free and simple image hosting is available thru Photobucket, but completely handled for you. If you do not have an account with them you are welcome to create one yourself, if not Blogs Gone Wild! will be happy to create it for you. If you already have an account there, please allow it to be used for your design.
Once you purchase the design, all the art work and images created for the design will become your property, having them hosted in your own account gives you full control over how they are or aren’t used. You are also welcome to use the account for personal images to post to your blog or sharing with friends. Photobucket is an excellent service that I’ve used for years and I highly recommend them for video and photo hosting.
What are your terms and conditions?
Unfortunately, I’ve recently had to change my policy concerning deposits. From now on, a deposit of roughly 50% is required before any work is started. Full payment is expected upon final approval and before the design is actually delivered to your blog or web address. Payments are accepted thru Paypal only, using secure data encryption. Blogs Gone Wild! is a verified Paypal business account holder and accepts all major debit and credit cards. Having or creating a Paypal account is not necessary and you will receive by email from PayPal a printable receipt for your personal records.
A Special Note About Blogger Beta - Please Read!
We are now designing templates for “New” Blogger or “beta” version. Of course, “classic” Blogger templates are still available for those that prefer that platform. You can choose either one, please specify your preference. There are some minor differences between the way the two systems work although they both now use faster “dynamic publishing”.
